it is extremely dangerous to be in the sea.
indeed; much safer to be behind a keyboard 😄
@@gnarlydog you are not wrong. Try not to be too dangerous. GL. : )
Its wonderful ❤ how to attach sail to ski?
gnarlydognews.blogspot.com/2009/03/shop-diy-sea-kayak-sail.html
Have to compliment you on the quality of the videos and your paddling ! A question about skeg position when sailing. A bit hard to see on vid where the skeg slider is but when you’re rolling I can see the skeg and it’s half down sometimes, zero skeg other times and I think you’re on downwind runs. On beam and broad reaches I’m guessing you use some skeg? What about running? Where would you typically set your skeg? Thanks again for great videos😊
thank you. I use the skeg in the exactly same way I would l use it without a sail. On most of my kayaks on a beam wind (and depending on my paddling speed) I would usually deploy it half way, downwind it's usually fully deployed to prevent broaching and upwind (of course I can't sail at a very acute angle) it's all the way/retracted. Kayakers use to tell me that I need a kayak with a rudder if I want to use a sail as well. Well, I have been using skegged kayaks for years now and never had a problem with them and a sail
Thankyou very helpful. I’d come to that conclusion too but been watching yacht dinghy sailing where they seem to use the centreboard a bit differently. Any lateral wind forces are resisted using the centreboard down, downwind I think centreboard is up. I think the difference for our craft is we are sailing and surfing waves , so the Skeg use is different to account for the surfing. …. I think ..😊
Nice. I've only ever camped at the designated camp grounds with my bike. Are we allowed to camp anywhere on Kosci?
there are a few designated spots that are off the beaten track and secluded. This one was one of them
Sweet video, nicely done 👍🏼 One thing .. maybe needed more than 1 music track ? What's your Camera setup?
thank you. About the music: I struggle to find copyright free tracks that fit the scenes/mood I want to create in my vids. Usually I limit the length of the edit to one song (around 3-4 min max) and rarely I go for two tracks. Cameras: GoPro 7 and 8, simple, cheap (used ones) and good image stabilization
Buen campamento en motocicleta 👍
素晴らしい!
Great video Damien ! At about 4:00 a frame shows your skeg a fair way up I think. Can you explain how you use your skeg when sailing thank you
skeg up will mainly turn the kayak upwind, skeg down will turn it downwind; pretty much the same as without a sail. Of course that is on a balanced kayak with the correct trim (load distribution within the hull)
Hi Gnarly, notice you have your forestay and side stays mounted much higher up the mast than standard, which looks much better (stronger)to me. Is that correct?
You are correct. The idea to have stays mounted low down on the mast is mechanically flawed as it exerts too high of a pulling force on the deck anchors while allowing the mast to bend and snap. Simple tringulation/bracing laws will favor a much higher point. The other argument for the sail not being able to be depowered in a strong wind (with high stays) is not true: once I release the uphaul the mast falls to the side and takes all the wind out of the sail :-)
Looks v good and just two side stays, thank you for reply
Nice pictures, ghastly music.
Awesome
Well done. Looks like a nice ride, and the views are breathtaking.
on the CRF would have been a breeze...
Quite a challange for me on the CB300R, but also lot of fun. Maybe one day I'll come back with a bit more experience on dirt.
somebody once said: THERE’S SOMETHING TO be said for using the right tool for the job. But there’s an almost defiant joy to choosing a motorcycle that’s completely inappropriate for the ride at hand-especially if you’ve been told you can’t. On an "appropriate" bike is easy, on a road bike not so much 🤪
How much the Greenland T weights?
Can you say me the kayak 's models? Thanks.

Thank you for proving you don't need an 'adventure' bike to ride these great roads. Every bike is an adventure bike, when every ride is an adventure.

But there’s an almost defiant joy to choosing a motorcycle that’s completely inappropriate for the ride at hand-especially if you’ve been told you can’t. Adventure is what you want it to be. Easy dirt roads are harder but more fun with the "wrong" bike 😜

maybe you will, one day 😃
Roads are looking great up there, nice vid thanks
most of the roads hae been recently graded so it's rather smooth and relaxed riding 🙂
Looks amazing! Where was the campspot at 1:57? Might have to do a trip up there myself!

wise move 👍 To demonstrate the reason, same spot on a different ride 😩 ua-cam.com/video/ZzaNHgPo3w4/v-deo.html

Great - I love it! What a wonderful trip this was!
very skillful roller! Thank you for the video!
Great video, love the temp fix on front guard
The fix worked for a while but the wire was too thin. Later I improved the repair with some epoxy putty that held really well the rest of the trip. Once back home, the guard was replaced with a new one but not before I reinforced the whole thing with a few layers of carbon and Kevlar, infused in epoxy resin
Thanks for sharing these great photos. I too miss your paddling blog but still read the only entries from time to time.
Plsss. What is the name of music? BECAUSE it relaxing me😊
👍👍👍
I've put a wind shield on my vtr250 it's made such a difference when travelling on the highway
What tyres are you using
in the front there is an "unorthodox" tyre (higher wall/width) Dunlop D605 4.60 while on the rear it's a Motoz Tractionator GPS in 130/80. The larger diameter front acts as a 19" wheel, more suited for off-pavement riding flic.kr/p/2pca4B8
hi ~ can I use this video free copyright?
I am afraid no
Do you reinforce under the deck? Between the deck and the hull?
yes I do reinforce with a few layers of glass or carbon (under the deck inside), unless the deck has a strong peak
Falcon Sails uses a separate 'kick stand' style brace below deck to make a solid mast/deck/hull assembly. @@gnarlydog

beautiful bike cb300r beautiful people, beautiful lovely Italy...
nice content guys i really loved it ♥
I am sorry to hear of you absence from paddling . Yours was my favorite channel for paddling. I learned so much from you. I understand lost interest. I had open heart surgery and lost interest in all my adventures, kayaking, ham radio and people. First it was the virus and then the surgery. I have been recovering and have not wet a paddle in over a year. I pray for you to find 0:52 enthusiasm and joy again. I will continue to check on you from time to time. Best of luck and may you find peace. By the way, you were one heck of a kayaker and my personal hero.
sorry to hear about health problems and that they kept you away from the water 😞 For me kayaking came to a slow-down once my paddling buddies moved on and the kayaking locations became trite. I got bitten by the motorcycle bug again (I was a rider years ago before venturing into kayaking) and it fulfils my desire for adventure with way many more possibilities that the sea could offer (my coast is rather boring with very few islands to explore or camp). I am chaffed to hear that I inspired you but there is little chance of me resuming kayaking, at least for the foreseable future. May you get back on the water soon
Hows the size on that kayak? Do you think someone 5'10 175 would fit or would it be undersized?
Great little video,
I did it the other way,did you come across a clay pan ? I tried to take some shots but my phone didnt want to play, some spectacular scenery.
there were only a very few tiny spots of muddy puddles, but closer to Dargo the road was getting some massive grading done to it and sprayed with water to keep the dust down. Very slippery 😰
love you man.
Vov, super, puiki idėja! Bravo!
Awesome video! Do i need to paddle this kajak model with a greenland paddle or can i use any doublepaddle?
any style paddle can be used with this kayak (I have seen even some single blade canoe style). I just like the versatily of the Greenland paddle over the large Euro style (white water)
Nice ❤
Personally I would have let the Vegemite sandwich land in the water 🤮 Now a beer on the other hand.... 😆
Top video here gnarly, looks like a hoot. Question mate - how useful are these small 1m2, forward mounted kayak sails for cruising around and trying to cover distance? I’m in Melbourne and I’d love to do some extended cruising around the bay and also the Gippsland Lakes. I like the idea of an efficient sea kayak with a small sail on it for cruising, but not sure on their practicality. It seems they don’t go upwind well, and some people recommend skegs and rudders for tracking? What are your thoughts? Cheers, Matt
A 1m sail is the most versatile, up to 30 knots of wind. I have used sail for a long time and on long tours one can cover serious mileage without too much effort with the the right wind. I not a fan of rudder kayaks as I had a few brake so all my kayaks now have skegs. I find tracking with skegs excellent but there is a bit of a learning curve to understand the dynamics. But no kayak will track well upwind since it missed a keel, like a sailing boat. The best one can hope is a window of travel of 180 degrees (from behind and side) but no tacking.
Very beautiful and i like, can i use it for project, please 🙏 thank's..
unfortunately I can no longer grant a license to this video as an exclusive contract has been awarded.
